About
Amana is a Hebrew word firmly signifying trustworthiness & steadfastness.
My journey into birth work started long before I had the language for it. I was raised by a mother who was health-conscious; she was living "holistically" back in the 90s. She transitioned us cold-turkey to plant-based living & birthed her last two babies (VBACs) with midwives and doulas. Long before any of it was trendy, she was modeling autonomy & faith in health, birth, and motherhood. That planted a seed in me that challenged generational patterns and helped shape my lens of womanhood.
As I grew older, I realized my inclination for connecting with others through caretaking. While earning my CNA credential in high school, I found deep joy in simply being present with patients. I learned that I enjoy listening, tending, & supporting. And while pregnancy and postpartum aren’t illnesses, they are undeniably some of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons in a woman's life. Helping women and families feel seen & supported is a calling of mine.
In college, I grew tired of my daily and monthly doses of pharmaceuticals to manage my PMS, dysmenorrhea, & ovarian cysts. After an IUD that left me with more problems than solutions, I stopped taking birth control & turned to plant medicine and dietary changes. It was in this lifestyle and mindset shift that I became drawn to homebirth.
I don't recall ever having met anyone who did it, but on my first unofficial date with my now-husband, I told him I wanted to homebirth and homeschool my future children (partly to scare him off). It didn't work. His smile only grew, and he said something like, “Same.” We’ve been married seven years now.
In 2023, everything I had been learning, unlearning, and praying over became a lived reality. Guided by scripture, traditional midwifery training, and deep conviction, I carried and birthed my child through an unassisted pregnancy and a YAH-assisted birth with my husband in Tennessee. That experience was refining, humbling, and full of hard-earned wisdom. It taught me what it truly means to surrender without abandoning discernment. To trust the body while staying anchored in the Word. To prepare deeply, walk intentionally, and lean on Yah rather than systems never created with us in mind.
Amana was born from that place. A calling to support families who feel led toward homebirth or unassisted birth and want care rooted in belief, autonomy, and community-centered wisdom. Care that honors scripture, respects lineage, and restores birth to the family and community where it has always belonged.
