About

Meet Rachel

My path into birth work began long before I had the language for it.

Looking back, I can see how the seeds for this work were planted early.

I was raised by a mother who cared deeply about health and the way we lived. Long before holistic living became popular, she was making choices that reflected her beliefs about food, wellness, and faith.

In the '90s she transitioned our family to a plant based lifestyle and birthed her last two children as VBACs (with midwives and doulas in tow).

At the time, I did not realize how unusual that was. What I saw was simply my mother trusting the body she had been given and YHWH who designed it.

That example shaped the way I would eventually understand women, health, and birth.

Learning the Work of Care

As I grew older, I noticed something about myself. I was naturally drawn toward caring for people. While earning my CNA credential in 2011, I discovered that the part of healthcare I valued most was presence.

Listening.
Supporting.
Being with people in vulnerable moments.

Pregnancy and postpartum are not illnesses, but they are some of the most transformative seasons in a woman’s life. I began to recognize how meaningful it is when mothers have steady support during that time.

My Personal Healing Journey

During college I found myself increasingly frustrated with the cycle of medications I had been prescribed to manage PMS, dysmenorrhea, and ovarian cysts.

After an IUD created more problems than solutions, I decided to step away from hormonal birth control altogether.

That decision led me down a different path.

I began studying plant medicine, nutrition, and holistic approaches to health. Through those changes I started to understand my body differently. Instead of something to suppress or control, it became something to listen to and support.

Around that time I first felt drawn toward homebirth.

A Shared Vision

I do not remember meeting anyone who had birthed at home at that point. Still, the idea stayed with me.

On my first unofficial date with the man who is now my husband, I told him two things about my future. I wanted to homebirth and homeschool my children.

Part of me expected that might scare him away.

Instead he smiled and said, “Same.”

We have now been married seven years.

My Birth Experience

In 2023, everything I had been learning, questioning, and praying about became personal.

Guided by Scripture, careful preparation, and traditional birth education, I carried my pregnancy and eventually birthed my child at home with my husband here in Tennessee.

Birth refined me in ways I could not have anticipated. It required preparation, patience, humility, and discernment.

Most of all, it deepened my trust in the wisdom of the body and in the guidance of the Most High.

That experience continues to shape the way I support families today.

The Heart Behind Amana

Amana bloomed from this journey.

What began as personal conviction eventually became a calling to support other families as they walk through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with intention.

Through Amana, I work with families who value physiologic birth, informed choice, holistic living, and thoughtful preparation for the transition into parenthood.

My role is not to direct a family’s birth. My role is to offer education, steady support, and calm presence so they can move through this season with confidence.

Today, I serve families throughout Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, and the surrounding Middle Tennessee area through Amana Birth and Postpartum Services.

I have a background in herbalism and out-of-hospital birth education. I am also continuing my studies in midwifery as I work toward the Certified Professional Midwife credential through the Portfolio Evaluation Process.

When I am not supporting families, you can find me spending time with my husband and child, barefoot gardening, sunbathing, dancing, cooking, reading about traditional birth practices, or hiking.

The perinatal period is a time I approach with deep respect for mothers, families, and the responsibility that comes with supporting them. And I embrace that every family’s journey is different.

If you are preparing for birth and looking for support that respects your values, I would love to hear your story.
